Nine to Five

we have moments
of invincibility
eclipsed by reason

and I have flirted
with disaster like
a miracle reversed
midstream

collecting rain
from nine-to-five

like scraps of
courage less than
storms or satisfaction.

Give up the Ghost

lungs freeze inside
a heavy heart and
voiceless fear
beneath embers of
declining dreams
unsung and hardly
possible.
