Thirteen Years on September 11th

thirteen years and
half my life ago

I felt remorse
inside the small world
of eighth grade

lockers and
simplicity before
the fires lit inside
a television set
and we were
manufactured to
believe in war

like tragedy might
save us from more
death…

thirteen years
and everything
is flat

but television
hasn’t changed

we haven’t
changed.

scattered thoughts of you

words

coming home to you
after long lonely afternoons
staying around almost every night
without that risk of ‘fight or flight’

a mentality that will bring one to their knees
as my tongue pressed on my teeth
i’m reminded how you’ve unwound
the tighter parts of me
the parts of me i’m scare to let
the eyes of others begin to see
the urge to tell you
how things in me start to grow
when you look to me with that smug smile
your eyes at half mass, as if you know
what is going on up in my mind
how i’m wrapped around you half the time
how each breath waits to be set free
your eyes
your hands
on mine
a wish you’d see me
your curves
tender
waiting to see
what tomorrow brings
a wish to feel you and your broken wings
the beauty of your wingless flight

writing in airplanes

In the laurel a small sliver of light
illuminates red breasts resting their wings
before taking perch upon Anglican towers,
seeking there the power to ordain those present
in their almighty will, meeting all temptation
to resist swiftly stomped to hell, an example
for souls yet to be saved

STALKING THE DEMON
(Book 2 in the Seven Circles of Hell)
by Ciara Ballintyne

Date of Publication – 22 September 2014
Genre: High Fantasy (Adult)
About the Book
Alloran lost his hand to thwart his renegade friend–but the world is still going to hell.

Six months after Ladanyon’s defeat, Gisayne is fading away from a baffling illness. Alloran is desperate for a cure, but he has a secret–the seven circles of hell are unstable. His worst fear is that the terrible mirror spell cast upon Gisayne has wrought some connection between her and the demon dimensions.

As everything Alloran loves races toward destruction, he does the unthinkable and refuses to obey the council of wizards. The only people who can help him are the two research assistants assigned by the council–but he knows he can’t trust them.

All the answers are locked away in the last place anyone wants to go: hell.
